Preview/Report
Cheshire Jets moved themselves into fourth place in the BBL Championship table thanks to a comfortable 97-72 victory over the Airwaves Plymouth Raiders at the Northgate Arena on Sunday evening.
Plymouth started the stronger with an 8-2 tear in the early exchanges to lead 4-10 and they maintained their lead throughout the first period, and despite a 6-2 finish to the quarter from the Jets, the visitors lead 16-19 at the end of the opening stanza.
In the second period the Raiders continued their strong start and bagged the opening six points of the quarter to take the score out to 16-25. The South-West coast outfit extended their lead to eleven points midway through the quarter to 25-36, but thirteen points from Shawn Myers, including a three-pointer on the buzzer to finish the half, helped the Jets into the lead at 42-39 off the back of a 17-5 tear to head into the locker rooms with the lead.
The second half started in much the same vein as the first with both sides trading baskets in the early going, but an 8-5 finish to the third period from the home side saw them take a ten-point advantage at 62-52 into the final stanza.
In the final period, the Jets broke the game open right at the start of the period thanks in no small part to Chez Marks as he bagged eight points in a 10-0 start for the home side to take the score out to 72-52. The Raiders had no response to the Jets' attacking play in the final quarter and the home side were able to hold on for the comfortable victory.
Colin O'Reilly led all scorers in the game with an impressive 31-point haul for the home side, while Matthew Hilleary led the scoring for the Raiders with 25 points personal.
